Cost: $6.25, Prep Time: 30 minutes
4 potatoes, 1 onion, 8 whole mushrooms (1/3 pack), 1 lb ground beef (85% lean), 2 packs brown gravy, 2 cups water, garlic salt, pepper, 2 cans green beans
Baked Potatoes (in microwave) 16 minutes
First, wash the 4 potatoes under running water (no soap!). You can scrub it with a vegetable brush or just rub it with your hands. Pat potatoes dry with a paper towel.
Use a knife and puncture at least four holes on both sides of each potato. You must do this to let the steam escape or else the potatoes will explode in the microwave.
Put 2 potatoes in a microwave safe bowl, pour a little salt and pepper over the potatoes and put them in the microwave for 4 minutes.
After 4 minutes, flip the potatoes over. Cook for the remaining 4 minutes in the microwave. When those potatoes are done repeat the process for the other 2 potatoes.
Salisbury Steak with Brown Gravy (15 minutes)
Slice the mushrooms, peel 1 onion, slice it and then cut the slices in half (Note: this step can be done while the potatoes are cooking). Set aside
Remove the ground beef from the pack and sprinkle with garlic salt and pepper. Form ground beef into 4 oval patties. Get large frying pan/skillet. Spray with cooking spray and turn heat on medium high. Place patties in skillet and cook on one side for about 5 minutes.
After 5 minutes flip the 4 patties over and add the mushrooms and onions in the middle of the pan. Season the mushrooms and onions with salt and pepper. Stir mushrooms and onions until onions are see through (about 5 minutes).
Get 2 cups of hot water and pour it into the pan. Open 2 packs of brown gravy and pour into the pan stirring the gravy and mushroom/onion mixture to avoid clumping of the gravy.
Continue to stir until gravy comes to a boil.
Reduce heat to medium low and stir for a minute or two and then you’re done.
Green Beans (2 minutes)
When last 2 potatoes are done, place on plates and pour 2 cans green beans into the bowl you used to cook the potatoes.
Put green beans in microwave for 2 minutes.
