Yes, its true. There is such a thing as a market where everything is free. The really, really free market (RRFM) is a movement created by individuals who believe that capitalism is the root of many evils in today’s society. RRFM ideals are based on people sharing community resources, giving away what you don’t need and taking what you do. There is no money involved at a really really free market. The RRFM movement started in 2004 as a protest against the G8 summit, with simultaneous rallies taking place in several parts of the country. Today in 2010 there are monthly RRFMs in at least 15 states in the country.
Really really free markets usually occur in a public place like a park or other community area and are filled with people who bring their talents (like haircutting ability) or goods (like clothes and shoes) and make them available for free to others at the market. If you want to get a feel for what an RRFM is really about, check out the website for the RRFM in San Francisco at www.reallyreallyfree.org
The mantra of the really really free market movement:
Because there's enough for everyone
Because sharing is more fulfilling than owning
Because corporations would rather the landfills overflow than anyone get anything for free
Because scarcity is a myth constructed to keep us at the mercy of the economy
Because a sunny day outside is better than anything money could buy
Because "free trade" is a contradiction in terms
Because no one should have to do without food, shelter, entertainment, and community
Because life should be a picnic, but it only will be if we make it happen
BECAUSE THERE IS TOO SUCH THING AS A FREE LUNCH!
