How to find a good sports bar

The Basics:

sports barIsn't it the right of every black man (or any man for that matter) to be able to go to a bar, hang out and watch the game on a big screen tv?  If its not in the constitution maybe we should consider an amendment...  Even though we all may think going to the sports bar is a great idea, the $100,000 question is "how to find a good one?".  Sure there are restaurants that may have a few tvs scattered about with the game on, but many of these places (that shall remain nameless but sounds like 'snapplebees') don't have the volume up and instead have background musak from the 70's playing in the background.  We want to hear Marv Albert - "a spectacular move" or Mark Jackson - "mama, there go that man".  Okay I digress.  Back to the task at hand - how to find a "real" sports bar.  There are several options:

Ask a friend - This is the most logical choice because yo uprobably want some of your boys to go with you once you find a good place.  This option works well if you have freinds in the area and they are allowed to go out (I have heard that some guys even have trouble getting out of the house to watch the game - sad but true).  If you are new to the area and/or you don't have any friends who know the best spots unfortunately this option won't work for you.

Ask a bartender - Bartenders know everything right?  Many do, so a good option is to go to a cool bar or restaurant that does not emphasize sports and ask the bartender where he goes to watch the game.  9 times out of 10 he will have a few good recommendations, but even if he doesn't some of the guys on the neighboring bar stools will probably be able to help you out.  The only problem with this option is that if you can't find a good sports bar you probably haven't found a good neighborhood drinking bar either so there is no cool bartender to ask (see future topic on finding a good neighborhood bar).

Google it - This option works well if you follow the right strategy.  In the search box for Google, enter "good sports bars in san francisco (or whatever city) and go straight to the result that shows Google Maps (usually the first one).

Clicking the link will give you the full map with pinpoints of many (but not all) of the sports bars within a 25 mile or so radius.

The great part about this technique is that you get a review of each place on the left, complete with photos of the bar and reviews by people who have been there.  We want to know how you find a good sports bar.  Add a comment or suggestion below.
