Finding shoes for men with big feet
Let’s face it many of us black men are blessed with large feet. It’s all good until you need to find some shoes. That’s where we have a problem. To make things a little easier we have listed some great resources to help you find shoes of several type: for work, play or a night on the town.
Most of the sites have free shipping on most orders and have a great selection. If you know of other resources, please add them to the comments. If you own a shoe store, please add it also (free publicity for you).
Athletic Shoes - Friedman's Shoes
Located in downtown Atlanta, this is THE shoe store for athletes. Don’t be surprised if you walk in and find stars like Charles Barkley, Dr. J or Joe Johnson wandering through the store. They have a huge selection of shoes from size 7-22 and they have all the major brands.
If you don’t live in the Atlanta area - no problem. You can order shoes online or through their mail-order catalog.
Work Shoes - 2BigFeet.com
2BigFeet.com specializes in all types of large shoes for men, but they have an especially good selection of work shoes and boots. They carry shoes up to size 20 and widths up to 14E in men's shoes. In addition to the work shoes they also carry other types of footwear to include athletic, casual, dress, sandals, slippers, and therapeutic shoes. They offer free shipping on purchases over $100 or a flat shipping rate of $6 on all orders.
Dress Shoes - Zappos.com
With probably the largest range of shoes from top designers and brands, Zappos is a great choice for anyone looking for a good pair of shoes. For the big man, there are sizes that go up to 21 so you won’t have any problem there.
From boots and athletic shoes, to flip-flops and dress shoes you should definitely be able to find what you need here. They also carry specialty shoes like eco-friendly and vegan shoes. Yes, vegan shoes!
General Selection - ShoeBuy.com
If you're looking for the largest selection of shoes with the most name brands, ShoeBuy.com is probably the place to start. They do not specialize in large size shoes, but they do have a large assortment of shoes that range from 13 up to size 20. Shopping online is fairly easy as you can narrow your search to just the sixe you're looking for.
Shoebuy has free shipping and also offers several discounts so check out the offers (and online coupons) before you make your final purchase.
Basic Outdoors - OddBall.com
Funky name, cool shoes. Oddball has been around for a long time and specializes in large shoes (and large socks) for men. Sizes range from 13 to 18 and they have some decent brands to include Adidas, Converse and Columbia. They also carry extra large hoodies and hats. Not the trendiest of the bunch but if you're looking for some basic athletic shoes, walking shoes or hikers this is a good place to check out.
In US shoe sizes, there is only about 1/3 of an inch difference between whole sizes.
If you're looking for comfortable shoes try to pick shoes that have square toes, or oval toes. Shoes that come to a point (think snakeskin boots) tend to cram toes together and can be very uncomfortable.
Check shoes with stitching on the heel area. This stitching can become very uncomfortable over time.
Since there is such a small difference in whole size shoes (1/3 inch), don't be afraid to ask for a size LARGER if they don't have your exact size. Never go smaller.
