I believe an understanding of an individual's cultural background is important in establishing an effective working alliance. It also provides many of the areas that are central to understanding the individuals & families' life experiences. For example, attachment issues are critical in developing self-identity in childhood, but also is the source of many of adult issues that are presented in therapy.

I specialize in areas such as: Drug dependency (recovery/treatment); which is connected to a population in which I believe I am most effective with; Adolescents. Men issues, especially men of color, who have been incarcerated, I work effectively with as well. I never wish to exclude any individual in need.

Dr. Janet Hazen, Psychologist

I have worked for over 15 years with women, children and men who have experienced violence either personally, by witness, or through loss of a family member. Many clients are women dealing with present-day partner abuse, or issues from childhood sexual abuse. Additionally, I see adults working through relationship issues, life-stage changes, grief and loss, and spiritual matters. My practice consists primarily of African-American and Hispanic individuals and couples, but welcome people of any socio-economic status, race, ethnicity, family constellation and sexual orientation.
