Native New Yorker Euphemia "Tika" Sumpter was born June 20, 1983 in Hollis Queens. Destined for success in the media, Tika received her degree from Marymount Manhattan College in communications and almost immediately caught the public’s attention. By the age of 21 Tika was already the co-host of the N Network’s Best Friend’s Date. A year later she landed the role of Layla Williamson in the popular ABC daytime soap opera One Life to Live.
Ms. Sumpter’s career seems to be continuing on the fast track as she recently has had recurring roles in both Gossip Girl on the CW and BET’s The Game. Her latest role as Dominic’s girlfriend in the smash hit “Think Like a Man” will almost surely win her over a whole new audience.
Anyone who looks at Tika Sumpter can see that she is a beautiful woman, but it is her intelligence, skill at landing roles and her unassuming personality that almost insures that she will continue to prosper in her career. Whether modeling (as she has done for Liz Claiborne), appearing in videos (like Jason Derulo’s “It Girl”) or acting (in the upcoming movie Sparkle), Tika Sumpter is one Beautiful Black Woman that we can expect to see a lot more of in the months and years to come.
