Salli Richardson-Whitfield is a talented actress who has been a model of consistency in the TV and film industry for 20 years. Born Salli Elise Richardson in Chicago to an African American Mother and an Irish-Italian father, Salli learned her acting craft in the theater and her combination of beauty and talent seemed to make her destined for stardom. Salli Richardson added the “Whitfield” to her name when she married her longtime boyfriend Dondre Whitfield in 2002. Her stability in acting seems to have carried over to her personal life, as she has been married for almost 10 years and is the proud mother of a son Dre Terrell Whitfield.
Salli’s professional career began in 1991 with the film Up Against the Wall, but her first big break and notoriety came in 1992 with her feature role in the film How U Like Me Now. Since then Richardson-Whitfield has starred in multiple films to include A Low Down Dirty Shame, Posse, Antwone Fisher and Black Dynamite. A bonafide TV star as well, Richardson-Whitfield has made numerous guest star roles in shows like New York Undercover, and Family Law, but is probably best known for her role of Dr. Allison Blake in the sci-fi show Eureka. Her latest film I Will Follow is a critically acclaimed independent film directed by Ava DuVernay. In the film she stars as a successful make-up artist who is visited by 12 people on the day she is moving out of the house she shared with her terminally ill aunt. Her work in the film is excellent and as with her other roles Salli’s acting talent shines through in the telling of this very moving story.
Whether comedy or drama, Salli Richardson-Whitfield always manages to light up the screen. We are proud to feature her in Beautiful Black Women and can safely say that she will have much more success in the years to come.
"...you can't throw life experience away for anything, and there is just a certain depth that you bring to things as you get older, because you know so much more." - Salli Richardson-Whitfield (March 25, 2011 interview at AllHipHop.com)
