Jennifer Hudson came to national prominence and notoriety as "the best singer not to win on the TV show American Idol. Her vocal performances were phenomenal and even though she only came in seventh place, in May 2010, the Los Angeles Times claimed Hudson to be the third greatest Idol contestant in the history of the show. With such high praise for her singing, Jennifer quickly caught the eye of Hollywood and she made her film debut in the 2006 musical film Dreamgirls where she garnered rave reviews. With her career taking off Hudson finally released her debut album Jennifer Hudson in 2008, which again was received very favorably by the media, critics and her fans. The album went gold, selling over 800,000 copies.
