Angela Bassett is one of the finest actresses of a generation and continues to amaze on the big screen. A graduate of Yale University, Bassett gained some of her first acclaim in the early 90's in the films Boyz in the Hood (1991) and Malcolm X a year later. Her role as Tina Turner in What's Love Got to Do with It earned her a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Motion Picture Musical or Comedy; the first ever for an African American woman. From there Bassett continued to play star in over 30 films to include How Stella Got Her Groove Back, Waiting to Exhale, and her latest Jumping the Broom. Everyone has a favorite Angela Bassett movie and it is almost impossible to find a movie where she was not excellent.
Throughout her film career Bassett has always played strong women who embody the style and grace that seems to ooze from every pore of her being. Angela is cool, sassy and sexy; and she always seems to be in complete control. Maybe its those sultry eyes or that coy smile. Maybe its because she is so physically fit that you would be scared to tussle with her in a fight. Whatever it is, Ms. Bassett is a model of how an African American woman can build a wonderfully successful career in Hollywood while maintaining personal integrity, beauty, and an impeccable reputation.
"I just think I inherently exude some strength. But, I think I consciously do try to bring the humanity or the vulnerability of the character to bear," - Angela Bassett May 2011 interview
