There are reports around the web that Shaunie O-Neal, the ex-wife of Shaquille O’Neal, is trying to turn her VH1 show Basketball Wives into a movie.  Most respectable black people wish this fake, denigrating and stereotypical show would go off the air, but now they want to expand the audience from tv to movies?

For anybody who watches this show, I’m not hating on you because I do understand.  What makes many people watch this trash are the same psychological impulses that make grown people stare when they see a car wreck or make little kids run to see a schoolyard fight. With that in mind we must understand that these instincts are the WORST in us.

The media corporations will force feed this garbage to us and know that we will watch it, just like we watch the blood on the highway.  They will make money on the backs of the few sellouts like Shaunie who produce it and the sellout “actors” who collect the financial scraps that fall from the corporate table.

It is up to us as responsible black people not to make this garbage, not to watch this garbage and definitely not to PAY to watch this garbage on film!

The vast majority of black women are not savage, bitch slapping, trash talking biddies sitting around cat fighting and spending the millionaire black man’s hard earned money.  Rising up as a people means that we have to stop acting uncivilized and supporting shows that portray us as savages.

Black women work, take care of kids, have normal friends and violence-free relationships with other women.  Why doesn’t somebody make a movie about that?!?
